Position Overview:

The BCSA Literacy Outreach Facilitator will work collaboratively with the BCSA Manager to design, coordinate, and facilitate community-based educational programs and activities. This includes overseeing after-school programming, digital literacy initiatives, and job-seeking support for community members. The role requires strong interpersonal skills, a passion for education, and the ability to work effectively with diverse community groups, particularly in a school setting.

Employment Duration:

  • Contract Period: August 18, 2025 – June 30, 2026
  • Hours: 30 hours/week
  • Wage: $27.75/hour

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Commitment to working in a diverse school and community environment.
  • Strong desire to support students, families, and community members.
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work with children, learners of all ages, and diverse populations.
  • Previous experience in educational program facilitation or community outreach.
  • Ability to support digital literacy initiatives and assist with technology-related needs.
  • Skill and experience in working with children and adults in educational, recreational, and job support settings.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in coordinating events, community programs, and outreach campaigns.
  • Must be willing to complete a Criminal Record Check for the Vulnerable Sector (The BCSA will cover the associated fee).
  • First Aid Certificate: Must hold or be willing to obtain certification upon hiring.
  • Training or experience in education, program development, project management, literacy instruction, or teaching English as a second language (preferred).

Key Responsibilities:

1. Program Coordination and Facilitation:

  • After-School Programming: Coordinate and facilitate four days of fun and educational after-school programming each week for the School’s Out Program in partnership with United Way BC.
  • Adult Programming: Develop, coordinate, and facilitate engaging adult programs such as Monday Night Drop-in Sports, quarterly Cooking Classes, Art Workshops, and other educational programs.

2. Community Engagement and Support:

  • Job-Seeking Support: Provide assistance to community members with resume and cover letter development, offering guidance in job search and interview preparation.
  • Digital Literacy: Support community computer access initiatives, including workshops or 1:1 training to help individuals build essential digital skills.

3. Collaboration and Event Hosting:

  • Community Events: Work in collaboration with the BCSA Manager to organize and host community events and family-oriented programs.
  • Outreach and Marketing: Design and create advertising materials for various platforms, including social media, newsletters, and community noticeboards, to ensure effective promotion of BCSA programs.

4. Educational Support:

  • Program Development: Collaborate with the BCSA team to design and implement programs that promote literacy and educational development across diverse community groups.
  • Collaborative Projects: Work with the BCSA Manager to identify opportunities for educational initiatives and outreach to improve literacy and skill development in the community.

5. Administrative Support:

  • Reporting and Documentation: Maintain accurate records of program activities, attendance, and feedback, ensuring timely reporting to the BCSA Manager.
  • Program Evaluation: Contribute to the evaluation and improvement of existing programs, offering suggestions for innovation and better community impact.
